The EDC Forum 2017 in Muenster brought together approximately 50 stakeholders from science, industry, and public authorities to discuss recent trends and ideas regarding Big Data Analytics in Geographic Information Systems.
After a short welcome by the organizing partners from the Institute for Geoinformatics, the 52° North Initiative for Geospatial Open Source Software GmbH and Esri Deutschland GmbH, day one began with a comprehensive introduction to general and geo-specific Big Data concepts. Afternoon sessions provided detailed insights into some of these technologies, as well as their application in areas such as agriculture and earth observation.
On the second day, participants gained hands-on experience with the technologies discussed. Three parallel sessions focused on “ArcGIS Real-Time & Big Data analysis”, “R-ArcGIS-Bridge”, and “Processing Earth observation time series with SciDB and R”.
The EDC Forum 2017 was a great success and provided valuable insights into the fascinating field of Big Data Analytics from various scientific and business perspectives. We would like to thank all participants for their enthusiastic contributions and interesting discussions!
